Marmalade Making Time

[Posted on February 3rd, 2015]

January and February is marmalade making time in the Hay Barton kitchen.

marmaladeHere is my first batch of the 50 jars of Seville Marmalade I will be making this week.

My favourite recipe is Delia Smiths …

  • 2lb Seville oranges (900g)
  • 4 pints water (2.25 litres)
  • 1 lemon
  • 4lb granulated sugar (1.8kg) warmed

For those not a slave to their kitchen, Cornwall’s Coast path is beautifully empty in
February.  For something a little more strenuous there is the 5k run through the beautiful parkland of the Lanhydrock Estate near Bodmin every Saturday between 9am and 10am until March 7th.

Hellebore Day at Bosvigo House in Truro

February 21st also sees the wonderful Hellebore Day at Bosvigo House in Truro.  Gates open at 9.30am.  Not only are there the plant sales but also ‘Posh Tombola’ and delicious refreshments.  Owner Wendy Perry  lost her daughter in the Boxing Day Tsunami.  Wendy Perry uses the open day to help support the fishermen of Khao Lok in Thailand rebuild their lives following the devastation of the Boxing Day Tsunami and local charity Shelterbox who provide emergency shelter in times of disaster around the World.

The World Pasty Championships
